Excel 2007 - Compile error in hidden module: Utilities?

After I installed NumXL, every time I open Excel or try to use anything on the NumXL menu, a dialog box pops up saying: "Compile error in hidden Module: Utilities or AboutBox, etc."

Answer: You are probably running an outdated Excel 2007 Installation. NumXL was tested with MS Excel 2007 with service pack 3 (SP3).

Typically, if your computer has a Windows auto-update service enabled, then Excel will be updated automatically for you and this won't be an issue. If you have just installed MS Office 2007, you may want to download and apply the service pack.

To find out more about your current installation, go to "Excel Options" and select Resources.

  • In NumXL 1.61 update 7 (1.61.41485.1), the installer will examine the existing Excel installation for compatibility. In the event that excel installation is found outdated, the installer will prompt the user and provide him/her with information how to update excel, but it will not proceed any further with the installation.
