Compile error in hidden module

Question:

Whenever I click an icon on the NumXL Toolbar, I receive a "compile error in hidden module" message, and nothing happens. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the NumXL program multiple times, but I still can’t figure out why this message keeps appearing.

Microsoft Visual Basic for Application: Compile error in hidden module

Answer:

Microsoft turned off all ActiveX components in Excel in the later office updates, rendering the refedit control (used in NumXL Wizards and Forms) disabled.

To re-enable ActiveX controls in Microsoft Excel:

  1. navigate to File → Options → Trust Center → Trust Center Settings → ActiveX Settings.
  2. Select Trust Center (sidebar) then click on the trust center settings

  3. Change the "disable all controls" option to another setting. For security reasons, we recommend selecting "Prompt me before enabling Unsafe Initialization (UFI) controls with additional restrictions and Safe for Initialization (SFI) control with minimal restrictions."
  4. Change the 'disable all controls' option to another setting, e.g., 'Prompt me before enabling Unsafe Initialization (UFI) controls with additional restrictions and Safe for Initialization (SFI) control with minimal restrictions'
