QQ Plotting in Excel

In this video, we demonstrate how to create a QQ plot in Microsoft Excel with the help of newly released NumXL 1.58 (BAJA). NumXL is an add-in for Excel that greatly simplifies different calculations used in time series analysis.

Scene 1:

Hello and welcome to the NumXL QQ plot tutorial. In this video we'll demonstrate how to create a histogram with the help of a simple user interface available with version 1.58 of NumXL. For this example we'll be using the daily log returns of the S&P 500. First select an empty cell in your worksheet then click on the description statistics button in the NumXL toolbar. Click on the QQ plot icon.

Scene 2:

A function wizard pops up. For input data select your sample values. The output defaults to the selected cell in your worksheet.

Scene 3:

Once you select your data you can pick the number of quantiles or the number of points for your QQ plot. Next, click OK.

Scene 4:

And voila, the QQ plot is in your worksheet. the output table is dynamic. You can make changes by adding new rows and copying the formula down.
